What do you see in your feed? Maybe people are doing tricks, magic, or eating crazy foods. But what if those videos don’t even exist?
In today’s world, various technologies have evolved, and AI can now create all sorts of things that were previously impossible. For example, a cat playing a musical instrument perfectly or famous historical figures explaining themselves. However, these things are just for people using AI to satisfy themselves and not making others feel laugh and enjoy..
Sometimes I wonder if I can even trust my own eyes anymore. If everything can be faked, how do we know what is real? When we scroll through Instagram, we might see a video that looks real, but it isn’t.
Furthermore, only 21.6% of people are able to identify real photos, which implies that about 80% of people are being tricked by AI.
For instance, this is a photo of a dog doing a peace sign to the camera at 2:35:23. It is a really unusual pose that a normal dog can’t do, right? However, this is actually an AI-generated photo. The humans and animals we see in pictures or videos on the internet might not actually exist in our real world.
These days, it has become a trend to judge whether a photo or video was created by AI or taken by a human, calling it “real or fake.” However, many people mistake AI videos for the real thing, which could become a serious problem. If people are no longer able to distinguish between real and fake, they will not know what to believe in the future. We may end up believing false information or, conversely, not be able to believe true information.
Nowadays, there are many apps that AI uses to edit photos beyond what people imagine. For example, there is an app called “Meitu” that allows people to input the face of a celebrity and their own face into an app and edit the photos to create a hugging or loving picture with that celebrity and themselves. As this technology develops, it could lead to problems such as celebrities being criticized for their love lives, relationships, and their privacy, even though they are not real photos.
“Look at this! This is mac and cheese that I made yesterday!”
If I sent this to you, what would you think about this photo? How would you respond? This is actually a picture that AI drew for me. AI is becoming a tool that can draw something realistic and looks super good like real food.
Now, AI isn’t just about making fake photos with celebrities or pretending I can cook. It could impact bigger areas of our lives. For example, we need to think about the possibility that AI may take away people’s jobs in the future. In the past, if a restaurant owner wanted to use a photo of their food in an advertisement, they would pay an illustrator to draw the photo. However, in this day and age, restaurant owners could ask AI to create the photos, so it is now thought that there is a high probability that illustrators’ jobs will be taken away in the future, or there could be fake advertising for their products, food, etc.
Today, I went to Yogoberry with my friends and my sister. I saw a drawing of products on the TV inside the shop. However, I noticed that it is drawing from ChatGPT or AI, since it has characteristics of AI. The example of AI drawing characteristics could be weirdly shiny products. I see some weird filters on the drawing, and other objects, such as a kiwi in this photo, look unrealistic. However, my sister didn’t realize until I told her, and she was still suspicious even when I told her that it looked like an AI-generated drawing. This is making me think that AI is stealing humans’ jobs, and in the future, it could get worse.
In addition, although AI drawings can cause problems such as stealing people’s future jobs or making it hard for people to tell if it is either real or fake, there are some advantages to asking AI to draw a picture for you. For example, there are times when you want to use an image you have in mind for a project, but when you search, you can’t find what you want. That time, you can save so much time by asking AI to create a picture that you are looking for. However, if you use AI and say this picture is made by you, this could be a lack of creativity.
This is a photo that I asked ChatGPT to make into a Ghibli drawing. This could be a way of using AI to make your favorite picture into your favorite drawing style, such as Ghibli, Pixar, and more. Some may criticize me for copying or plagiarizing artists, but that’s not the case if I’m using it for personal purposes, not for school projects, work, or professional purposes.
AI affects us both in a negative and a positive way. It can create amazing images, videos, and even give us ideas that make our lives easier, but it can also confuse people about the thing is true or fake and take away people’s future jobs. This is why we need to be careful about the use of AI and not believe everything we see. If people learn to use AI wisely, AI may support us rather than replace us. Therefore, the future depends on whether we control AI or whether AI controls us.
