The classic sibling rivalry

If you have a sibling, you will certainly understand the tension that sometimes builds. But did you know that a rivalry could develop even before the second child is born? According to the site KidsHealth, of the Nemours Center for Children’s Health, just imagining a younger sibling can make a first child feel intimidated. Parents play a key role since a rivalry worsens when parents treat their children in different ways, showing preference of one over the other. This leads to jealousy. Children want to feel appreciated for their individuality; they are trying to understand who they are, and this uncertainty often leads to competition to gain attention. Being a sibling often means going through a range of emotions, from extreme exasperation to extreme fondness. Yet, no matter how terrible the fight, most siblings feel love and affection towards each other.
